About this Event

Body positivity, beauty and identity through the lens of Joseph Wolfgang Ohlert.

Photography Exhibition, Artist Interview & Q&A

WHAT IS IT?

Join Friend of Dorothy for a special evening celebrating BIGGER, the photography book by Joseph Wolfgang Ohlert, exploring body positivity, identity, beauty and the way we see ourselves and others.

Through his photography, Joseph challenges conventional beauty standards and celebrates bodies in all their different forms, inviting us to rethink what we consider beautiful and why.

We'll start the evening with an exhibition of selected photographs from BIGGER, giving you the chance to explore the work up close, enjoy a welcome drink and meet some new faces.

We'll then sit down with Joseph for an intimate conversation about the inspiration behind the book, the people he's photographed and the stories behind the images.

We'll explore body image within the gay community, the pressures of beauty standards, representation and the importance of seeing ourselves reflected in art.

There'll also be an opportunity to ask Joseph your own questions during an audience Q&A.

As with all Friend of Dorothy events, it's about more than just the exhibition. It's a chance to come together, share experiences, meet new people and have conversations that matter.

Whether you're passionate about photography, interested in body positivity or simply fancy an evening of art and good company, we'd love you to join us.

Scared to come alone?

Most of our guys showed up solo too

It's the most common worry we hear. Here's how we make sure first-timers leave feeling like they belong.

1

You won't be the only solo guy

More than 60% of attendees come alone. The room is built for it.

2

We greet you at the door

Tell us it's your first time and we'll introduce you to people right away.

3

The activity does the work

You don't have to make small talk from cold.

4

Leave when you want

Stay for the social or head home early. Both are normal.

Finally a gay event where I felt seen

I'm 47 and most gay events make me feel ancient. This one had every type of guy — single, coupled, all ages.

My first gay event ever

Was so nervous to come alone. Within 10 minutes someone introduced themselves at the bar.

Worth every penny (which is barely any)

£10 for a line-up that would cost £40 anywhere else, plus a drink and a gift bag.
