Whisky, Explained: A Tasting Workshop for Gay Men
Learn how to taste whisky, understand what you’re drinking and work out what you actually like.
Join us at Lowcountry for a hands-on whisky workshop and tasting, designed to take some of the mystery out of whisky – without any of the snobbery.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Led by one of Lowcountry’s whisky experts, you’ll be guided through 5–6 carefully selected 15ml pours of bourbon and rye, including some rare and harder-to-find bottles.
You’ll learn how to properly taste whisky, what to look for in the colour, aroma and flavour, why different whiskies taste the way they do, and the key differences between bourbon and rye.
You’ll also pick up some genuinely useful tips on choosing bottles, ordering whisky and figuring out which styles you actually enjoy.
And don’t worry if you know absolutely nothing about whisky – that’s kind of the point. No previous knowledge needed and no intimidating whisky chat.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Gay men who want to learn more about whisky, drink some brilliant bottles and meet new people while doing it.
Complete beginner? Perfect. Already know your bourbon from your rye? You’ll still discover something new.

Finally a gay event where I felt seen
I'm 47 and most gay events make me feel ancient. This one had every type of guy — single, coupled, all ages.

Was so nervous to come alone. Within 10 minutes someone introduced themselves at the bar.
— Theo · Comedy night, JuneWorth every penny (which is barely any)
£10 for a line-up that would cost £40 anywhere else, plus a drink and a gift bag.
